Man charged with arson after domestic incident, house fire in Springfield

Police arrested a 26-year-old man on a preliminary charge of arson after a fire broke out in a Springfield home Monday morning.

Police arrested Mark Allen Bass Jr. on charges of aggravated arson, obstruction of official business, misconduct at an emergency and cruelty to animals, a Springfield police dispatch supervisor said.

Police were first requested to the home in the 1400 block of Sunset Avenue on reports of a domestic incident at the home around 10:15 a.m.

Firefighters in the area reported smoke and flames coming from the home as police officers were being dispatched, according to initial reports.

Two dogs were rescued from the home with one of them requiring oxygen from emergency crews, according to emergency scanner traffic.

The home sustained damage, but an estimate was not immediately known.

There were no other reports of injuries and additional details were not available.

Firefighters have responded to a house fire in Springfield that reportedly started as a domestic incident.

Crews reported flames coming through the front door of the home in the 1400 block of Sunset Avenue around 10:15 a.m. Monday.

Initial reports indicate there was a domestic incident at the home shortly before the fire broke out.
