Heavy rains increase flash flooding risk over next few days; Wind gusts expected Friday

Showers are expected to last into the night, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

Occasional heavy rains will increase the risk for flash floods near creeks and streams. The high today was near 55 degrees, and was expected to fall only slightly for a low of around 50 degrees.

Tomorrow there will be more rain, with thunderstorms possible in the afternoon. Temperatures will be higher, with a high near 68 degrees. Overnight tomorrow storms are predicted to continue along with wind gusts up to 30 mph. Temperatures will again only drop slightly overnight to around 62 degrees.

For Friday, even more rain is expected, which will continue to increase the risk of flash floods. Rain is expected mainly earlier in the day before tapering off in the afternoon. The high will be near 68 degrees. Friday night, the rain is finally predicted to break, with the forecast calling for mostly cloudy skies, but much colder with a low of 29 degrees.
