Pickup truck stolen in Springfield is found abandoned in Dayton after pursuit

Police, at 8 p.m., were continuing to look for a male suspected of taking off in the vehicle before abandoning it outside the Family Dollar store, in the 3200 block of West Siebenthaler Avenue, at the shopping center.

According to Springfield police, the thief jumped in the vehicle a woman left running on West Main Street.

Springfield police issued a BOLO (Be On the Lookout) for the vehicle about 6:18 p.m. Clark County sheriff's deputies saw the truck on West National Road about 6:21 p.m. and began their pursuit of it, Sheriff's Sgt. Robert Trimble said.

The pursuit continued across the county line into Montgomery, Trimble said, and his deputies intended to cut their pursuit there because other area law enforcement agencies were on the way to take up the pursuit.

"He wasn't driving recklessly," Trimble said of the truck, but he refused to stop. Pursuit speeds reached about 66 mph to 70 mph, the sergeant said.

"My deputies did a really good job and maintained their composure," he said.

Trimble, realizing his deputies were way out of their jurisdiction, had them cut their pursuit on state Route 4 just south of Valley Street out of a concern for safety.

No one was in the truck when Dayton police located it at the Northwest Plaza about 7:30 p.m.

Police believe the suspect was last seen running west toward Klepinger Road.

We will update this developing report as information becomes available.
