Sutphen announced Tuesday the company plans to open a new service, parts and refurbishment center at 49 N. Ludlow Road in Champaign County.

Sutphen Corp. plans to open a new service, parts and refurbishment center in Urbana, and hire more than 20 new workers.

The company is headquartered in Dublin, Ohio but also operates facilities at 1701 and 1653 W. County Line Road in Springfield. The company manufactures heavy-duty, custom-built firefighting vehicles. Sutphen will move into an existing location at 49 N. Ludlow Road in Urbana. Along with opening the new facility, company officials said they will hire service technicians and will initially provide 22 jobs at the Urbana site.

“We are working hard to grow the service and parts piece of the business,” said Todd Winnenberg, general manager of Sutphen’s Service and Chassis Divisions in a news release. “It’s a good feeling to know that we have grown to the point where we need additional space and employees.”

The new facility also has room for further expansion once it’s complete, if needed.

Comapny officials said the new facility will give Sutphen room to expand its parts inventory and focus more on refurbishing fire engines.
