New Carlisle American Legion Post 286 flag retirement ceremony: 3 things to know

American Legion Post 286 in New Carlisle holds the flag retirement ceremony every year at dusk on Flag Day.

Proper flag etiquette requires an old, tattered and worn American flag to be folded into its traditional triangle and then burned while “Taps” is played and people salute. The ashes are then buried, according to the American Legion.
