The day will likely start with round one of rain and some embedded thunderstorms, which means your commute will be a little soggy, Storm Center Chief Meteorologist McCall Vrydaghs said.

There will likely be a break that develops between rounds for midday. Highs will soar to around 70. Winds will also pick up after lunch gusting at more than 40 mph.

Clouds increase again into the afternoon and the threat for downpours and storms begins again (mainly after 3 p.m. or so).

Expect your evening commute to be active with showers, storms and gusty winds. Some storms could produce damaging wind gusts and ponding on roads.

For the late afternoon/early evening, some storms could become severe. Wind will be the main threat but conditions could also favor a spin-up tornado.

The confidence expressed about the severe storms is going to rely heavily on the break that could develop earlier in the day. Too much cloud cover could limit the potential for anything strong.

A cold front will sweep through into tonight, allowing for dry weather to return for Friday.
