Local lakes water quality: Are you heading to a lake this Memorial Day weekend?

If you plan on spending your Memorial Day weekend at a local body of water we have you covered with the latest advisories from the Ohio Department of Health regarding  area lakes and creeks.

The local bodies of water that are affected are:

Grand Lake St. Marys- ODH has issued a "RED" danger Elevated Recreational Public Health Advisory for Grand Lake St. Marys Camp, Main East, Main West and Windy Point locations. The Advisory states to avoid all contact with the water. Algal toxins at unsafe levels have been detected. For more information go to www.ohioalgaeinfo.comor call 1-866-644-6224

Madison Lake- ODH has issued a "YELLOW" Bacteria Contamination Alert for Madison Lake.  This is a warning for high bacteria levels. The Alert is posted when the level of bad bacteria in the water has reached unsafe levels and could make you sick. Children, the elderly and those in ill health or weakened immune systems are advised not to swim.

The ODH also issues an “ORANGE” Recreational Public Health Advisory when an algal bloom is present and/or algal toxins have been detected. Swimming and wading are not recommended for: children, pregnant or nursing women, those with certain medical conditions and pets.

No local lakes are under an orange advisory at this time.
