A single-barrel, limited-release bourbon from Wild Turkey will be released Friday morning, Sept. 21, at eight liquor stores in the state, and Springboro Wine & Spirits will be the only Dayton-area location selling the special bottles.

Each bottle of single-barrel Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit will cost $49.95 plus tax, Ohio Division of Liquor Control officials announced today, Sept. 12.
This bottle release is not to be confused with an event scheduled for three days earlier, on Sept. 18, in Columbus, where a raffle for the right to purchase a bottle of Russell’s Reserve 2002 will be held. Those rare bottles in fact will cost five times as much, at $249.95.
“What would National Bourbon Heritage Month be without another Ohio single barrel release?” Division Superintendent Jim Canepa said in an agency “Insider Bulletin” soon to be released via email. “This time, we're bringing you Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit. We chose these barrels, as well as the Russell's Reserve we released in June, alongside Master Distiller Eddie Russell during a visit to the distillery in February. This will be the only release of Kentucky Spirit in Ohio this year.”
“I suggest you get to these Agencies early; during our last release, bourbon aficionados were lined up as early as 5 a.m. to snag their bottle,” Canepa wrote. That was the case at Arrow Wine & Spirits in Washington Twp. last month when a similar release of a different bourbon from Maker’s Mark was released.
“A single barrel bourbon individually bottled at 101 proof, these limited edition barrel selections deliver a rich vanilla flavor and a hint of sweetness,” Canepa wrote. “Each participating (store) will receive its own barrel, making your purchase even more unique.”

>> PREVIOUS COVERAGE: Special-release bourbon coming to a select few local liquor stores
On June 15, seven Ohio state liquor-agency stores sold bottles of a special Russell’s Reserve barrel release for $55 a fifth (750 milliliters). The bottles sold out quickly. A similar release of a special Maker’s Mark bourbon in August was even more limited; the Arrow Wine & Spirits on Lyons Road in Washington Twp. was the only state liquor-agency store in the southern half of Ohio to be a part of that release, and its bottles sold out in seven minutes.
Under the direction of Canepa, the Ohio Division of Liquor Control has been upping Ohio’s game in sales of spirits, with an increasing focus on educating consumers about craft spirits and adding new stores in under-served areas. The division recently awarded contracts for new liquor-agency stores in south Centerville and Mason.
