Funeral services today for Mason family killed in I-75 wrong-way crash

Funeral services are today for the three family members from Mason who were killed in the I-75 wrong-way crash that happened on St. Patrick’s Day.

Tim and Karen Thompson, ages 51 and 50, and their 10-year-old daughter Tessa were killed when their vehicle was struck by another vehicle traveling the wrong way.

Twenty-one-year-old Abby Michaels, of Xenia, was taken to Miami Valley Hospital, where she was listed in serious but stable condition, according to Moraine police.

"Tim, Karen, and Tessa Thompson were three shining lights in the universe of those who loved them. Because they shared their love and laughter widely, their loss is deeply felt by many," reads their obituary .

A funeral Mass is planned at 11 a.m. at St. Susanna Catholic Church, 616 Reading Road, Mason. A second memorial Mass will be held in Maumee, Ohio, at a future date.

Tim L. Thompson was an avid sports enthusiast who worked as the vice president of sales and marketing at Tape Products Company in Cincinnati, according to the obituary.

Karen Thompson “taught with a combination of tough love and compassion” as a special education teacher for Cincinnati Public Schools, according to the obituary.

Tessa Thompson was “wildly creative and fiercely independent, making a vibrant impression on everyone she met,” according to the obituary.

Police suspect that alcohol was a factor in the crash and reported that Michaels turned into the median around mile marker 49, then continued traveling northbound in the southbound lanes.

No charges have been filed in the case.
