Family to release lanterns in honor of missing Clark County soldier

It’s been a year since anyone saw a soldier from Clark County who went missing from Fort Drum in New York.

Saturday marks the one-year anniversary of Spc. Trevor Nichols’s disappearance.

Investigators said Nichols, of Tremont City, left Fort Drum where he was based without his driver’s license, military ID or cellphone and never returned.

A private investigator said nothing about Nichols’ disappearance points to foul play.

Julie A. Halpin, Fort Drum spokeswoman, said that Nichols was a soldier with the 10th Mountain Division’s 1st Brigade Combat Team.

On Saturday, his family plans to release lanterns in his honor. The release is 7 p.m. at the Purple People Bridge in Newport, Kentucky.
