Springfield man who died after incident at Buck Creek was former Marine reservist

UPDATE @ 7:35 p.m. (June 11): Caleb Diviak, the 22-year-old Springfield man who died in a hospital two days after he was rescued at Buck Creek State Park, was a former Marine reservist, according to a branch spokeswoman.

Diviak served from March 2014 until March 2018, according to the spokeswoman, Yvonne Carlock, and achieved the rank of lance corporal, E-3. He also was a supply administrator.

Diviak also received the selected Marine Corps Reserve Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

A 22-year-old Springfield man who was in critical condition at Miami Valley Hospital following his rescue from the lake at Buck Creek State Park on Saturday has died, the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office confirmed Monday night.

Caleb Diviak was found by a fisherman unresponsive in the water near a Jet Ski while wearing a life jacket. The fisherman rescued him by moving him from the water to the main dock area.

Ohio Department of Natural Resources officers and other bystanders rendered aid and administered CPR before the victim was taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, according to the ODNR.

He was initially reported in stable condition, and then critical condition in the hospital’s intensive care unit before his passing.

The incident remains under investigation.
