Per initial reports, the fire occurred around 9:20 p.m. prompting fire crews from Bethel Twp., Vandalia, Huber Heights, Springfield Twp, and other surrounding departments to respond.

There was one occupant inside of the house at the time of the fire, but they were able to get out without injury.

The fire remains under investigation, but officials believe it started in the basement and spread to other areas of the home.

When asked about challenges with putting the fire out, crews cited the cold weather as one, which they said is one reason mutual aid was requested.
