Nobody was home at the time of the fire, Dayton Fire Asst. Chief Adam Landis said.
Firefighting units were dispatched just after 6:30 p.m. on the report of a possible structure fire. Crews found heavy fire on the first and second floors.
There was too much fire for firefighters to safely get inside the house, he said, so they took up a defensive strategy.
There were no injuries. The Red Cross was called to assist the residents.
