CORONAVIRUS: Springfield pub reopens today for carryout

The Ole Brick Tavern in Springfield is reopening today for carryout from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. after temporarily closing due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“We’re a pub that serves food,” Owner Sandy Hamilton said. “But because of everything going on, we are now going to be a restaurant that serves alcohol.”

Hamilton said she and her husband, Mark, decided to change the way they usually operate, so their employees could come back to work.

“My heart went out to them (my employees) because I couldn’t pay them,” Hamilton said. “I still have three girls that don’t draw unemployment right now, so that was the big reason for us to turn around what we do as our business and flip it so we can open.”

The Ole Brick Tavern will offer burgers and other sandwiches, wings, pizza and appetizers like cool ranch pork rhines for carryout. They will also serve daily drink specials.

To ensure the safety of their customers and employees, carryout orders will be picked up on their outdoor patio.

“One way in and one way out kind of thing,” Hamilton said.

Hamilton explained she does worry that if they are not allowed to open “anytime in the future” they could lose the pub.

“We’d hate to have to close it down because it has been grandfathered in – it is the only business there,” Hamilton said. “If it shuts down, nothing else will be there. We don’t want to lose the historical building just because of the coronavirus.”

The Ole Brick Tavern, located at 3475 Mechanicsburg Road, is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday for carryout.
