Local woman to judge at Westminster dog show this week

A Beavercreek woman will be a judge at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York this week.

Victoria Seiler-Cushman is among the judges at the 143rd annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in what is her first assignment at Westminster, the show said in a release.

Seiler-Cushman began showing dogs as a teenager, winning a group fourth at Westminster when she was 14 with her Siberian husky, the show said.

“She became a professional handler, guiding many top winning dogs in all seven groups,” Westminster said.

In her career, she has won more than 200 “best in shows” prizes.

She is on the board of directors of the Dayton Kennel Club and a member of the Doberman Pinscher Club of America and Giant Schnauzer Club of America. She is approved to judge 29 breeds across five groups.

She will officiate over several breeds and junior showmanship preliminary rounds during the daytime competition at Piers 92/94 in New York on Monday and Tuesday.

Seiler-Cushman will judge the Boston terriers and Chinese shar-pei on Monday and the akitas, boxers, great Danes, rottweilers, Siberian huskies, and weimaraners on Tuesday, the show said in its release.

All “best of breed” winners she selects will go on to compete in the “non-sporting group” finals Monday evening and the “sporting and working group” finals Tuesday evening at Madison Square Garden.

In the junior showmanship segment, Seiler-Cushman will select four of eight finalists for the “best junior handler” competition Tuesday evening at Madison Square Garden.
