Celebration of Waynesville man’s life Sunday at high school

The celebration of the life of a well-known Waynesville man who died in a Butler County crash will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb.9 at the Waynesville High School Gymnasium.

Lonnie Schear, 70, of West Ellis Drive in Waynesville, died following the crash on Oxford State Road near Radabaugh Road.

His wife, Connie Schear, 69, a passenger in the vehicle, was seriously injured in the crash.

Schear, a long-time employee of LCNB Bank, worked for 47 years at what was originally known as the Waynesville National Bank. He was a local leader involved in community events, including the Ohio Sauerkraut Festival and the Waynesville Area Chamber of Commerce.

Schear’s obituary indicated he was a member of Waynesville High School’s first football team and served in the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam era.

Asked about his military service, Schear would respond, "I am a Marine, once a Marine, always a Marine," according to his obituary.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m.-6 p.m. Sunday at the Waynesville High School Gym. Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville is serving the family.
