“Beautiful here and in heaven,” Kristin Meeks wrote on Littleton and Rue Funeral Home’s website. “So lucky to have known the impact that you have had and your parents have had on this Earth. Hoping we can all make your life worth living with our time here. We will keep trying here until we see you and meet you again. Bless you and your family.”

Carly was the daughter of local obstetrician/gynecologist Dr. Lisa Delong, and Robert Lee Delong Jr. Her passion was volleyball, according to her obituary.

The school said in a Facebook post that it’s deeply saddened by her death, adding that their thoughts and prayers were with her family. They didn’t return calls seeking comment for this story.

Carly was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia on New Year’s Eve and was being treated for cancer at Children’s Hospital of Dayton, according to a school’s earlier news release. The student body wore orange earlier this year at a sporting event to support her. Springfield High School fans said they plan to wear orange at their football game this Friday in tribute to Carly.

Courage for Carly had become a rallying cry for the teen and orange is the color for childhood leukemia awareness.

A gathering of family and friends will be held 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Catholic Central High School Gymnasium. A celebration of her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the gym with Rev. Randy Warner officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation at www.stbaldricks.org.

She is survived by her parents, Lisa DeLong and Bob and Susan DeLong; her sister, Lauren DeLong of Xenia; her brother, Robby DeLong of Virginia Beach, Va.; step-sisters Ashley Wright, Bethany Wright and Caylee Lokai; grandparents Al and Henrietta Bean, Tom and Faye Harmon, and Bill and Rita Trost; nephew, C.J.
