JUST IN: Dayton bakery owner to open second location in Miami County

The owner of a dessert and confection bakery on the Dayton-Oakwood border is heading north to his hometown in Miami County to open a second location.

Justin Livingston, who operates Moore Dessert Please at 1003 Shroyer Road in Dayton just inside the Dayton-Oakwood border, is gearing up to open Scratch Bakery by Justin Tyler ("Tyler" is Livingston's middle name) in Tipp City.

The new bakery will open in a 600-square-foot space at 29 E. Main St. that is now occupied by Sweet by Kristy. Plans call for Livingston’s new bakery to open on or about April 9, with a grand opening in the works for April 21, Livingston said. There are NO plans to shut down the Dayton location, he said.

Livingston was not looking for a second location, but said he has “always dreamed of expanding and being in multiple locations,” and was drawn to the idea of expanding to his hometown, and specifically, to a space that has significance for him.

“The first bakery I ever worked at was Sweet by Kristy, and I quickly became friends with the owner, Kristy Reis,” Livingston said. “Since then, she has been a mentor and a very big supporter of all of my crazy ideas and dreams.”

After hearing that Reis and her family were selling the building that houses Sweet by Kristy, “I knew I had to make the jump, and plans all fell into place after this. Tipp City is my hometown, and it has always had a very special place in my heart.”

“We will continue to offer high quality, petite desserts but we will be putting a new spin on everything, including new recipes by myself, old Moore Dessert Please recipes, and even recipes from Sweet by Kristy,” Livingston said. “We will be baking every thing from scratch with premium ingredients … . I’m also excited to expand more into a gluten-free, vegan market as well.”

Moore Dessert Please was launched by Brittany and Tina Moore, who had operated an online-only bakery for nearly two years before opening the retail storefront shop in May 2012. Livingston joined the Moores as a co-owner in early 2016, and subsequently became sole owner.
