Chunks of ice falling from the towers and cables of the Mackinac Bridge caused damage to at least one vehicle Sunday morning, shattering a windshield and causing minor injuries, WPBN reported.
Shawn Thomas was heading toward Mackinac City when a piece of ice fell nearly 200 feet, shattering the front window of his truck, WXYZ reported. Thomas said seven other vehicles were hit by ice, but his truck had the most damage, the television station reported.

The bridge closed shortly after this incident but has since reopened.

Nicole Rogers, who was a passenger in another car, told WPBN she was crossing the bridge toward the Lower Peninsula around 10:15 a.m. when she saw ice falling from the top of the bridge. The driver of Rogers' car moved to the left lane to avoid the ice, but said Thomas' car got hit, the television station.
