“As they got closer, they noticed that this was not a person but actually an 11-foot alligator,” Carroll said.
Firefighters called in agents with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Carroll said. A trapper was able to remove the reptile from the backyard after a fight, WLPG reported.
Officials said the decision to euthanize the alligator came after rainy conditions put the trapper's safety in jeopardy, WSVN reported.
“The ground is wet, the alligator is wet. He didn’t want to take a chance, so the trapper made the decision to put the alligator down,” Carroll told reporters.
