The Greater Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) has postponed Thursday’s DORA Night in downtown Springfield due to the elevated status of COVID-19 in Clark County.

“With Clark County being elevated to a COVID-19 Red Alert Level 3, we are unfortunately POSTPONING our “Dog Days of Summer” DORA Night,” Visit Greater Springfield said in a post on their Facebook page.

The event was planned to feature family-friendly attractions to get residents to enjoy an evening downtown in a socially-distanced way.

Attractions planned included a dog obstacle course, live entertainment, dog portraits, painting, pet adoptions and DORA specials.

“We have consistently ensured potential attendees that we would follow CCCHD’s guidance on staging any event,” the post said. “At this particular moment we feel it is best to postpone the event with an eye towards rescheduling at such time as conditions allow.”

Chris Schutte, vice president of destination marketing and communications for the CVB told the News-Sun previously that DORA - which stands for Downtown Outdoor Refreshment Area, allowing adults of drinking age to have adult beverages in a designated area – has been successful in downtown Springfield, but never got to be fully explored. DORA Night was a chance to do so.

This event was also a chance for downtown merchants and restaurants to offer specials and welcome visitors.

The CVB staff were planning to evaluate how the first DORA Night went with hopes to add different themed-nights monthly.
