DeWine and statewide ticket rally GOP voters

The Republican statewide ticket, led by governor candidate Mike DeWine, is making its final push to rally GOP faithful voters with a two-day bus tour that ends in Moraine on Friday.

“Twelve days from now this election will be over. My commitment from that moment will be to be governor of this state for all Ohioans, to bring people together,” DeWine said at a stop in Columbus with his wife at his side. “….this is a close race — that makes it more fun. Right, Fran? More fun?”

Polls show the Ohio governor’s race between DeWine and Democrat Richard Cordray is tied and analysts rate it a toss up.

The Republicans will end their bus tour in Moraine Friday night at 8 p.m. at The Mandalay, 2700 East River Road.

DeWine pledged that he would keep taxes low and regulations reasonable; invest in early childhood development; improve workforce development; and address the opiate crisis.

He did not mention health care or protecting Ohioans who have pre-existing conditions, such as cancer or diabetes — an area where Democrats are hammering Republicans.

Outside the GOP rally, Democrat Betty Sutton, who is Richard Cordray’s running mate and is following the GOP tour, held a press conference to point out — again — that DeWine opposed the Affordable Care Act, which protects people with pre-existing conditions from losing their health care.

The Ohio Democrats held a statewide bus tour earlier this month.

“It’s all on the line in this election,” said DeWine’s running mate Jon Husted, the current secretary of state.
