Dayton man charged with trafficking more than 500 grams of cocaine in Clark County

Two men are facing criminal charges in Clark County after they allegedly were found to have more than 500 grams of cocaine in their possession.

Eddie Ash, 43, of Chicago and Gregory Montgomery, 44, of Dayton, are charged in Clark County Municipal Court with possession of drugs and trafficking in drugs. They pleaded not guilty, Monday and their bonds were set at $200,000 each.

Springfield police began an investigation Sunday after they were called to assist by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, according to a criminal affidavit filed in the cases. They met the troopers near Harrison Street at Linden Avenue.

“While speaking with (a sergeant), he stated that he observed the vehicle make a turn signal violation before stopping the vehicle,” the affidavit says. “Ohio State Highway Patrol K9 Trooper White arrived on scene and deployed his K9 partner, who conducted a free air sniff around the silver Impala. The K9 indicted to the odor of narcotics on the passenger side of the vehicle.”

The affidavit says a search for the vehicle was then conducted and officers found a trash bag containing several open vacuum seal bags containing white powder substance lying on the driver’s floorboard.

“A black nylon bag containing two vacuum seal bags with white powder substance (suspected cocaine) inside was located on the passenger floorboard,” the affidavit says. “Each vacuum seal bags contained 258 grams of white substance. Three cellphones were located inside the vehicle as well as one cellphone on each defendant.”

Both defendants were transported to the Clark County Jail after the investigation, where they remained Monday morning. A next court date in the case had not been set.
