Springfield woman reports being sexually assaulted behind shed

Springfield police are investigating accusations made by a woman who says she was taken behind a shed and sexually assaulted by an unknown man.

Police responded to the area of Lafayette Avenue and Maryland Avenue on Thursday at around 3 p.m. because the woman was knocking on random front doors and windows seeking help, the report says.

“(The victim) advised she was walking on Selma Road towards Kenton Street when she was approached by the suspect, an unknown male,” the report says. “She stated he asked her if she wanted to make some money and they began to walk and have a conversation.”

The woman said the man eventually grabbed her arm and walked her behind a shed near a school and sexually assaulted her twice, the report says.

“(The victim) stated the male said ‘sorry I had to do that to you’ before she was able to take off running and get away from him,” the reports says.

The woman was transported to Springfield Regional Medical Center, according to the report. The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made.
