Springfield woman accused of hitting husband with car during argument

A Springfield woman is accused of hitting her husband with a car during an argument.

Bonita Beachum, 49, is charged with felonious assault and domestic violence in Clark County Municipal Court. She pleaded not guilty to the charges and her bond was set at $15,000.

Springfield police began their investigation when they were called to the Marriott Hotel in downtown Springfield, according to an affidavit filed with the charges.

The affidavit says Beachum and her husband were arguing and the man decided to get a room at the hotel, but then asked that she bring him some clothes. The two began to argue in the hotel’s parking lot, according to the affidavit.

“He stated he opened the rear trunk to get his clothing out fo the trunk while they were arguing to the rear of the vehicle,” the affidavit says. “He said she got very angry and got into the driver seat and put the vehicle in reverse.”

The man tried to jump out of the way, but was hit by the car, the affidavit says.

“He said Ms. Beachum then put the car in drive and sped away quickly,” the affidavit says.

Police continued their investigation.

“We spoke to three employees that work for the hotel,” the affidavit says.

The witnesses said they saw the vehicle go into reverse and then speed off.

A next court date for Beachum was not set, according to online records.
