Springfield robbery victim listed in ‘serious’ condition

A Springfield man who was badly hurt during an alleged robbery was listed Tuesday in serious condition.

Springfield police began their investigation Sunday when they responded to Springfield Regional Medical Center. The man was allegedly walking eastbound on West Pleasant Street towards South Western Avenue Sunday when two unknown men approached them from behind and demanded everything he had, the report says.

“(The man) told the unknown suspects that he did not have anything,” the report says.

One of the two men hit the victim with an unknown object in his abdomen, the report says. The victim fell over and lost consciousness, the report says, before waking up to find the two men running away. He also found himself bleeding, according to the report.

“(The man) did not know what the unknown suspect hit him within the abdomen, but he began bleeding from a puncture wound,” the report says. “(The man) also had a laceration above his right eye from where he fell and hit the concrete with his head when he lost consciousness.”
