Springfield restaurant burglarized, ransacked

Springfield police are investigating a business break-in.

Authorities responded to the Hibachi Grill, 1071 N. Bechtle Ave., Monday morning and found the front door open, a police report says.

“The door appeared to have been forcibly opened using a pry tool,” the report says. “We immediately observed the front of the business was in disarray behind the front counter. We cleared the building without incident.”

The police found money was missing from the restaurant, the report says.

“At the front desk, the cash register had been pried open and was emptied of all US currency inside,” the report says. “It appeared the suspect had been looking for additional items of value. The entire front counter area was in disarray.”

Springfield police dusted for fingerprints, photographed the scene and collected other evidence, the report says. The case is still open and under investigation, the report says.
