Springfield police and fire divisions are investigating a stolen vehicle fire that was reported on Tuesday night as an arson.

Officers were dispatched around 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday to the area of Columbus Avenue and North Florence Street in reference to a vehicle on fire, according to a Springfield police report.

CRIME: Springfield fire, police investigating after car “set ablaze”

When police arrived to the scene, the Springfield Fire Division had the 2006 Chevy Malibu fire extinguished.

Officers then discovered the vehicle was reported stolen minutes before the fire, the report says.

According to the report, the suspect is described as a man who is 5-foot-11, 180 pounds, and was wearing a blue hoodie, blue jeans, and white and black shoes.

No other suspect or witness information was available.

Springfield police continue their investigation into this incident.
