Springfield police began their investigation when they were called to the library’s main branch in downtown Springfield and spoke with security for the branch. They were told Primous was observed taking DVDs and putting them in a bag.

“Mr. Primous then exited the building failing to check out the DVD titles,” the affidavit says.

Primous was known to the security guard because Primous was suspected in other thefts, the affidavit says, and officers were able to locate his residence in their system. They made contact with Primous at his home to discuss the allegedly stolen DVDs.

“(Officers) advised that they immediately observed the red duffel bag that we described to them on the phone laying in plain view just inside of the front door,” the affidavit says. “There … were DVD cases that read ‘Clark County Public Library.’ ”

Officers detained Primous and told him that he was not allowed back on library property.
