James B. Wicks, 59, pleaded not guilty to one count each of drug possession and possession of drug abuse instruments in the Clark County Municipal Court on Monday. Bond was set at $6,000.
Springfield Police Division officers were called at about 3 p.m. Dec. 15 to a home in the 900 block of Cypress Street about Wicks, who had allegedly overdosed on heroin. Wicks also had an active warrant, the report said.
After Wicks was transported to Springfield Regional Medical Center, officers found a syringe at the scene with blood inside of it. After being taken into custody, police searched Wicks and found a plastic container with a white rock inside. Wicks told police it was cocaine, the report said.

Wicks did not fall under the Good Samaritan Law because he had overdosed previously three times between March and October of 2016 and is also on probation, officers wrote.
Wicks remains in the Clark County Jail.
