Springfield man allegedly steals electronics from home, slaps woman


A warrant has been filed for a Springfield man who allegedly entered a home, stole electronics and later slapped a woman he knows, according to a police report.

Officers were sent to a home in the 1300 block of Klobdenz Avenue at about 11:45 p.m. Saturday on a of disorderly conduct, the report said. A woman who lives there told police she was babysitting when Phillip M. Coonrod — who hadn’t lived at the home for two months — allegedly used a key to enter.

The victim was sitting on the couch and heard Coonrod turn the key to the door. She told him he wasn’t allowed in, but Coonrod shouldered past her and said he had things to pick up, the report said. She immediately called 9-1-1 and ran out the back door where she saw another man waiting in a vehicle.

Coonrod allegedly dumped out a basket full of clothes and took a laptop and a video gaming system, the report said.

The victim told police she ran after Coonrod to get the laptop back, but he then drew his hand back and slapped her on the left cheek. She then ran back into the home and locked the door, but the man pushed it open and said: “I have a key (expletive)!”

Another man then entered the home and said: “I have warrants we need to go!”

Coonrod, 23, left with the man in a vehicle headed towards Hillcrest Avenue, the report said. A warrant has been issued for Coonrod for both assault and burglary, the report said.
