A Springfield man is facing charges after he allegedly hit a woman he knows with multiple items, including a liquor bottle and a baseball bat.
Shawn E. Freeman, 43, pleaded not guilty to one count of domestic violence in Clark County Municipal Court on Thursday. Bond was set at $20,000.
Springfield Police Division officers were sent to the 700 block of Mason Street at about midnight on March 1 to respond to a domestic violence incident, according to a police report.
The victim told police she and Freeman had been drinking in their home, began arguing and the fight allegedly turned physical, the report said. The victim accused Freeman of hitting her with a glass liquor bottle and a sweeper, it said. She also said he hit her in the legs with a baseball bat, the report said.
Freeman also allegedly took the victim’s key and locked her out of the home. She forced the front door open to allow officers inside. Freeman was sitting in a chair in the front room and became very confrontational, refusing to cooperate “in any manner,” the report said.
The victim had several marks and bruises on her body and a very large black eye, officers said.
Freeman was placed in the Clark County Jail.
