Springfield chase suspect accused of striking man with baseball bat

A Springfield man accused of leading police on a car chase that ended in Xenia is also facing charges after allegedly striking a man with a baseball bat and stealing $100 from his home.

Kyle J. Warner, 33, has been charged with four counts of theft and one count each of aggravated robbery and failure to comply with a police signal. He’s expected to appear in court at 10:30 a.m. today.

On Feb. 23, Warner and a woman, Angela Leonard, allegedly entered a man’s home in the 1600 block of West High Street, according to court records. Leonard allegedly attempted to steal the man’s wallet, leading to a fight, records said. At that point, Warner allegedly entered the apartment and began striking the man with a baseball hat, causing multiple lacerations before both left with the wallet that contained $100, the report said.

Leonard was also charged with aggravated robbery. She was arrested on Tuesday afternoon and also expected to appear in court at 10:30 a.m. today.

On Tuesday night, Warner and another man were taken into custody following a police pursuit from Springfield to Xenia that police estimate reached speeds of 110 mph.

A Springfield police officer attempted to stop a car at South Yellow Springs Street and Innisfallen Avenue about 9:20 p.m. because one of two males in the car was believed to be wanted on for aggravated robbery, police said.

The pursuit began on South Yellow Springs Street, continued to U.S. 68 through some back roads before returning to U.S. 68. The car was stopped about 10 p.m., with the assistance of Greene County sheriff’s deputies, north of Xenia on U.S. 68 at Old Springfield Pike, police said.

Warner is also facing theft charges from four separate incidents in Springfield, court records said.
