Report: Springfield bank robbery Tuesday lasted 1 minute

Springfield police are continuing to investigate a Tuesday morning bank robbery.

A report says that at about 10:30 a.m. a suspect went into Security National Bank on West Main Street and handed a teller a note.

“(The teller) stated she refused to open the note so the man opened it for her,” the report says. “(The teller) advised he placed it on the desk and the note stated ’ give me all the money in your drawer.’”

The teller told police she complied with the suspect’s demands.

“(The teller) stated she gave the man a bag with an undetermined amount of money,” the report says. “The male then took the bag and then fled the bank.”

Springfield police reviewed surveillance video of the incident, according to the report.

“The male entered the bank at around 10:36 a.m.n wearing a blue jacket with US Polo written in large lettering across the bottom of the jacket,” the report says.

The man was also wearing black sunglasses and gloves with lime green trim on them, the report says.

“Officers observed on the video the man exiting the bank approximately one minute later,” the report says. “(A bank employee) stated that the man fled on foot eastbound through the parking lot and down West Main Street.”

The suspect is described in the report as a white man, 5 foot 11 inches tall and between 50 and 60 years old.

The report says officers checked the area but were unable to locate the suspect. The incident is still under investigation.
