A pregnant woman who was struck by a car on North Limestone Street near the downtown Springfield post office has been cited in connection with the accident.
Emergency units responded to 150 N. Limestone St. about 1:35 p.m. Monday after the crash was reported.
Sgt. Jerry Montico of the Springfield Police Division said the woman who was struck was treated for minor injuries and released. He said after reviewing camera footage from the surrounding buildings, the woman was found to be at fault and has been cited for jaywalking. Her name wasn’t available Tuesday.
A fire engine responding to the scene of the strike also was involved in an accident with a civilian vehicle. The driver of the car, Melvin Powell, said he was coming through the intersection at North Limestone Street when the emergency vehicle collided with his car.
Springfield Fire/Rescue Chief Brian Miller said the engine sustained minor damage and is still in service. The vehicle Powell was driving reportedly suffered front-end damage. Powell’s wife, a passenger in the car, was taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. Her condition is presently unknown.
