Police: Suspected burglar also accused of robbing Springfield bank

A Springfield man accused of running away from Clark County Sheriff’s deputies also is a suspect in a recent bank robbery, according to police.

Police released pictures to the public this week of a man who robbed the NCF Savings Bank on Villa Road on Oct. 30. — police now say the suspect is 39-year-old David Judy.

Witnesses described the suspect as a white man wearing a floppy, dark hat with a bandanna underneath and dark sunglasses. He also had a tattoo of a clock on the top of his left hand.

Police say the man passed the teller a note claiming he had a gun and demanding money. He stole money from two tellers before running out the door.

Clark County deputies got on Judy’s trail on Tuesday afternoon, when they were looking for him in a Delaware Avenue basement in connection with a nearby burglary. According to court documents, deputies found him underneath a table with a blanket over him.

He was handcuffed and taken upstairs — but then he made a break for freedom. After a short chase through the yard, a deputy tackled him to the ground and put him inside a cruiser.

But on their way to the sheriff’s office downtown, Judy was able to escape through the back seat window — still handcuffed.

The deputy chased him down again, but that landed Judy in front of a Clark County Municipal Court Judge on Wednesday morning facing two escape charges.

He was limping during his arraignment.

Not guilty pleas were entered for Judy for the escape charges, and Judge Mel Kemmer set his bond at $10,000.

Police said they are filing charges against him for the bank robbery.

As of Wednesday evening, Judy was still listed as an inmate in the Clark County Jail.
