A Connecticut man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly burning a 5-year-old girl with a hot iron, police said.
The alleged incident took place in September, but the girl's father recently noticed the scars and contacted police.
Victor Diaz, 33, is accused of burning his girlfriend’s daughter to punish her for wrinkling his clothes, WTNH reported. Diaz allegedly burned the girl's buttocks, through her jeans. The girl's mother told police the iron was left on the bed and fell on the girl, burning her, but investigators said the burns were consistent with being burned through clothing, WTNH reported.
Diaz turned himself in Wednesday. He is facing charges of second-degree assault, risk of injury to a minor and first-degree reckless endangerment. He can have no contact with the girl while the case is open.
