In total, officers from the checkpoints and increased area patrols interacted with more than 650 drivers, and arrested three. Officers also issued citations for driving under suspension and possession of controlled substances.
Highway Patrol troopers were joined by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, the Enon Police Department, the Ohio Department of Transportation, the Clark County EMA, and the Clark County Combined Health District.
INITIAL REPORT (8/22):
There are two OVI checkpoints planned in Clark County this weekend.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol says that two OVI checkpoints will be held in Clark County Friday evening.
The OVI checkpoint is funded by federal grant funds, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, and is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers.
“OVI checkpoints are designed to not only deter impaired driving but to proactively remove these dangerous drivers from our roadways,” the release announcing the checkpoints says.
The location of the checkpoint will be announced Friday morning. The Springfield News-Sun will report the location on its website, SpringfieldNewsSun.com
This isn’t the first time the Ohio State Highway Patrol has conducted an OVI checkpoint this year. OSP and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office held one on May 31. That checkpoint was on State Route 72 near Villa Road.
Troopers made contact with more than 150 motorists during the checkpoint but no one was arrested or cited.
After the checkpoint troopers said in a press release they planned to hold more throughout the summer.
