Warren County Sheriff's lieutenant on suspect's capture

Massive manhunt ends with suspect in custody, accused of shooting man, sheriff’s deputy

A man is in custody hours after officials said he shot a man and a sheriff's deputy following a domestic incident in Ohio.

Authorities launched a massive air and ground search Thursday night after a man, identified by the Warren County Sheriff's Office as Mohammed Abdu Laghaoui, 19, injured a sheriff's deputy who responded to a report of the incident and an unidentified man.

Both victims were expected to recover.

Authorities characterized the case as an "active shooter" situation and said Laghaoui was believed to be armed with an AK-47.

The deputy, an unidentified woman, was alert and conscious after the shooting and released from the hospital early Friday morning, officials said. The other victim, a man, remained hospitalized in stable condition.

Deputies said Laghaoui was wanted on multiple charges. He lives at the address where the domestic incident initially took place.

A shelter-in-place order was issued for residents as the manhunt continued. It left many people stranded for hours at area restaurants and businesses. Roads surrounding the search area were blocked to traffic.

More than 50 police cruisers, several K-9s and helicopters scoured the area, searching for any sign of Laghaoui. An Ohio State Highway Patrol helicopter equipped with infrared technology, or night vision, was also deployed, according to WCPO.
