Officers were dispatched around 8:30 a.m. to the 100 block of South Race Street in reference to a male being stabbed, according to a Springfield police report.

The victim told police he was sleeping when the suspect, later identified as Ronnie Spitler, started an argument with him, the report says. He said they had been arguing for several days, so the victim told Spitler, “let’s just get this over with, let’s have it out and have a fist fight,” the report says.

Both men were in the kitchen “squaring off” when Spitler grabbed a small kitchen knife and stabbed the victim in the right shoulder area, the report says.

The victim’s fiancée was also there during the incident and tried to call 911 after the stabbing.

“(The witness) then picked up her cell phone and stated she was calling 911, at which time Ronnie Spitler allegedly grabbed her phone and attempted to break it, while stating, “no, don’t call, I didn’t mean to do it”,” the report says. “Ronnie Spitler then grabbed the knife and ran water over the knife in the kitchen sink, dropped the knife in the sink and fled on food out the back door.”

The victim was taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center then later transported by ground to Miami Valley Hospital for the stab wound.

According to the report, a warrant was requested for Spitler for felonious assault.
