Man smacked with wooden board in Springfield diamond ring robbery

A Springfield man was attacked with a wooden board and almost $200 was taken from him, according to a police report.

Police began their investigation Wednesday at about 6 p.m. when they were dispatched to the 400 block of West Pleasant Street.

“(The victim) stated that … he was walking in the 1000 block of South Center Street,” the report says. “(The victim) stated that he heard someone call his name and he turned to see who it was.”

It was then he was hit in the head with a wooden board, the report says.

“(The victim) stated that he fell to the ground unconscious,” the report says. “He stated that when he woke up his diamond ring was missing from his left hand. He stated that he also had approximately $185 missing from his pants pocket.”

Officers are continuing to investigate the case, the report says.
