A Greenon Local Schools employee has been placed on paid leave following accusations of child sexual misconduct. Here is three things to know about the ongoing investigation.
1. Teacher accused of fondling
Larry Yowler, an Indian Valley Intermediate School teacher, has been accused of fondling a student and making her sit on his lap, according to a protection order requested in the Clark County Common Pleas Court.
The Clark County Sheriff’s Office confirmed they have launched a criminal investigation but no charges have been filed. Deputies declined further comment.
A court hearing has been scheduled for Feb. 5 to review the protection order request.
Yowler didn’t respond to an email seeking comment, a phone number listed in his name was disconnected and no one answered his door Thursday evening. The Springfield News-Sun will update this story if it reaches Yowler.
2. Alleged victim claims assault happened more than 10 times
The mother asked her daughter how many times this had happened and the daughter allegedly told her more than 10 times, according to the protection order request.
The girl at the center of the allegations is younger than 10, according to the protection order request.
3. Yowler placed on leave
Yowler was sent a letter by the district on Wednesday informing him he was placed on leave pending the outcome of the protection order request. The suspension will last either through the Feb. 5 hearing to review the protection order request or at least 10 work days, the letter says, and may be extended.
The district also said in a statement sent exclusively to the Springfield News-Sun that it’s conducting its own internal investigation. While Yowler is on paid leave, the district said he’s not permitted to go onto school property and must remain at his home during the school day.
