Federal charges filed against former Oakwood public safety director

Federal charges now have been filed against former Oakwood Public Safety Director Alex Bebris, who was arrested this week in Wisconsin and charged with 10 counts of possession of child pornography.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice served a search warrant Wednesday at a residence belonging to Bebris. The warrant was in response to alleged electronic transfer of suspected child pornography identified in a cybertip through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Lt. Chris Braman told the Dayton Daily News on Friday afternoon that federal charges have been leveled against Bebris to go along with the 10 counts he is facing by Wisconsin officials.

“He was initially arrested on state charges, and then the feds signed a criminal complaint, and they are going to take over the prosecution of the case.,” Braman said.

United States Attorney Matthew D. Krueger of the Eastern District of Wisconsin released a statement stating that Bebris, 49, is facing federal charges of distribution of child pornography and possession of child pornography. The charges include a mandatory minimum sentence of 5 years and up to 20 years of incarceration in federal prison.
