Coroner: Springfield baby found dead doesn’t appear to be homicide

The Clark County Coroner’s Office is investigating the death of a Springfield baby boy over the weekend but said it doesn’t appear to be a homicide.

The baby boy was found dead in his crib in the 1300 block of Cedarview Drive West on Sunday morning by his mother. A bag of clothes was found on top of him in the crib, according to a police report.

An investigator with the Clark County Coroner’s Office said Tuesday the death doesn’t appear to be suspicious and hasn’t been ruled a homicide.

The office investigates all children’s deaths, she said, and she declined to release the child’s name, age or if he had a medical condition, saying it’s an open investigation.

The baby’s father said he fed the child about 3 a.m. Sunday and put the baby back in his crib, a police report says. The boy’s mother then found him in his crib about 10 a.m. Sunday and yelled out to call 9-1-1, the report says.

Investigators said it appeared the baby had been dead for several hours, the police report says.
