Springfield police began an investigation Sunday morning when they were alerted that a child had been left for hours without his parent getting him proper supervision.
Police were called to the 800 block of Columbia Street in Springfield.
“(A woman) stated that the 11-year-old child victim came over to her house stating that his mother told him to find someone to watch him for the evening,” the report says.
The mother allegedly told the boy that “I have to go do something,” and left, according to the police report.
Police said the boy told them this was the first time he had been left, the report says.
“When I spoke with the child victim he stated he did not have a phone, he did not know any family member’s phone numbers and did not know where any of his relatives lived,” the report says.
No arrests have been made in the case and police are continuing to investigate, according to the report.
