Burrito chain to open third Springfield restaurant

Hot Head Burritos is opening a third location in Springfield, confirmed, a city official confirmed.

“The first I heard of it was on Friday," Stephen Thompson, planning and zoning administrator for the city of Springfield, said. "I received a sign permit application for it.”

The fast-casual Mexican restaurant will be located in the Park Shopping Center on Bechtle Avenue. The building previously housed Jon Smith Subs and Grill Time Express.

According to signage in the restaurant’s windows, Hot Head Burritos is “coming soon."

Thompson said the city of Springfield has no additional information regarding the new restaurant.

Springfield has two other Hot Head Burritos restaurants located at 2953 Derr Road and 3459 E. National Road.

The restaurants were both built in 2012.

Ray Wiley, president of Hot Head Burritos franchising and the store owner of the Hot Head Burritos located on Derr Road previously told the News-Sun “We’re thinking there may be a total of three (in Springfield).”

He previously said that they had been scouting possible locations in the area of Bechtle Avenue.

The News-Sun has reached out to Hot Head Burritos for more information, but has not heard back.

Hot Head Burritos was founded in Dayton in 2007 and now operates more than 70 locations in seven states. Its menu includes burritos, bowls, tacos, nachos and quesadillas.

The locally based burrito chain also has been adding alcoholic beverages to many of its restaurants, with an emphasis on craft beers and margaritas. The chain is renovating many of its restaurants to give them more of a cantina-like feel, the burrito chain’s founders say.
