Letter carrier ejected in Clark Co. mail truck crash

UPDATE @ 7:58 a.m.:

The U.S. Postal Service employee ejected from his mail truck Saturday in Bethel Twp. was issued a citation for failure to control a vehicle, according to Springfield Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Paul Royse, 61, of Tipp City drove off the road of New Carlisle Pike Saturday, overcorrected, and struck a telephone pole, Dispatcher Farris of Springfield OSP said.

A postal supervisor came out to the scene to retrieve the scattered mail and packages, according to OSP.

FIRST REPORT:

A U.S. Postal Service employee was ejected from his mail truck in a Saturday afternoon crash in the 6600 block of New Carlisle Pike.

Bethel Twp. Fire and EMS were dispatched around 12:45 p.m., and one person was taken to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton following the single-vehicle crash.

According to initial reports, the letter carrier was alert and talking on the way to the hospital.

The postal employee’s name and condition were not available, and the crash remains under investigation.
