Bowling event will celebrate National School Choice Week

The Ohio Virtual Academy will mark National School Choice Week with a bowling event on Friday.

The local event is one of more than 5,500 taking place nationwide, the school said. It is open to any family interested in learning about the Ohio Virtual Academy — an online public school that provides students computers and other materials and allows them to interact with teachers and other students through the Internet.

The local event begins at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, at Poelking Lanes, 8871 Kingsridge Dr. in Centerville. The cost is $2 per bowler. Registration is available online. Current students will attend and share their experience of why the school works for them.

In November, the Dayton Daily News reported on the trend of students choosing the school after being the target of bullies in their brick-and-motor public school.
