Bellefontaine beer bar owners open new restaurant, event space

After being voted four years in a row Best Beer Bar in Ohio by www.craftbeer.com, the owners of Brewfontaine decided to open a new restaurant and event space.

The Syndicate, a 5,000-square-foot venue that houses a “higher-end upscale, casual restaurant,” entertainment center and event space opens today at 4 p.m. in Bellefontaine.

Restaurant partners Adam Rammel, Brian Wall and Jeramy Fitzpatrick decided to create a new venue after they had many requests to rent out space in Brewfontaine, Rammel said.

“Instead of simply expanding Brewfontaine, we decided to elevate things by offering a beautiful space in downtown Bellefontaine to host special events and offer residents and visitors alike a great restaurant and entertainment option for a fun night out,” Rammel said.

The Syndicate, located next door to Brewfontaine, is open 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday. Dinner is served 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday and brunch is served 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Rammel said.

The restaurant’s dinner menu features crab cakes, mahi mahi en papillote, salmon ponzu, steak filet and fried chicken. Entree prices range between $15 and $40, Rammel said. The brunch menu features chicken and waffles, sweet potato waffles, mimosa flights and Brewfontaine’s signature Bloody Mary. There is also a list of beer, wine and specialty cocktails.

The Syndicate has indoor and outdoor seating featuring a beer garden. Rammel said they decided to open the restaurant now to take advantage of the outdoor space.

“It’s a blessing right now to have this outdoor space where people can spread out and feel safe,” he said.

The space is also available for private celebrations and parties, elegant weddings, special events and corporate meetings, Rammel said.

The location of The Syndicate, 213 South Main Street, formerly housed Jackson’s News Stand from 1946 to 1993, Rammel said. To keep the history alive, the restaurant has a New York-style news stand theme.

The venue can accommodate 100 guests inside and 200 guests in its patio and beer garden. Due to COVID-19 guidelines, the restaurant is operating at 60 percent capacity, Rammel said.

He added that the restaurant is offering on-site and off-site catering for private events.

“There’s really not a lot of upscale dining options,” Rammel said.

“People make the trip to Columbus a lot. We really want people to know that Bellefontaine is an option,” he said.
