Amazon may soon narrow list of cities for second HQ

Amazon is reportedly looking to carve out a shorter list of finalists for its second headquarters later this month.

As communities across the country await the news, there has been widespread speculation that Amazon will soon announce a shorter list of potential sites for the coveted HQ2 , reports the New York Times.

Last year Amazon announced its plans to open a second headquarters, initiating a competition between 238 cities who applied to be the home of HQ2. In January, the online giant narrowed it down to 20 finalists, with Columbus making the cut.

K.C. Conway, an economist and researcher who has tracked the project since the September announcement told The Columbus Dispatch he expects the company to pull the top five by Labor Day.

The Dayton region submitted a proposal for Amazon’s second headquarters but it was quickly scratched of the list of possible sites.

The proposal outlined several potential sites in the region for Amazon to consider, and the City of Dayton also collaborated with Cincinnati on its proposal by sharing data highlighting the strengths of the Dayton-Cincinnati region,Dayton City Manager Shelley Dickstein said in October.
